How will you meet the work and assessment requirements?
Plan direct support hours, real interactions, evidence and assessor access.
What does the 120-hour minimum mean?
At least 120 hours of direct support work; safely support at least three people. CHCCCS023 requires demonstrated competence as well as hours.
The 120-hour minimum is not a separate 120 hours per stream or per unit. The RTO must confirm how the same approved work and evidence meet all selected unit requirements. Additional time may be needed for competence or host/provider arrangements.
What personal-support evidence is required?
CHCCCS011 requires personal-support evidence involving at least two individuals and real interactions. Simulations supplement workplace evidence only in specified circumstances. Ask the RTO for the full task and assessment conditions.
Can your current workplace help?
Ask the RTO whether your duties, supervision and assessor access cover the selected units. Confirm how approved hours will be recorded and what happens if suitable tasks are unavailable. Online theory does not remove these practical requirements.
Which evidence needs a real workplace?
CHCCCS023 requires skills in a relevant workplace, with simulations and scenarios added where the full range was not available there. Assessment must include some real interactions with the person and their families or carers. The 11 October retained unit passage supports this distinction; an online course label does not replace it.
CHCCCS011 also requires a relevant personal-support workplace and some real interactions. Simulation can supplement missing activities and specified emergency or unplanned procedures where workplace assessment would be unsafe, impractical or threaten dignity. Ask the assessor to explain the approved plan; this is not permission to practise tasks outside your role.
What should be agreed before you count shifts?
Ask the RTO and host to confirm suitable duties, supervision, consent and privacy arrangements, who records hours, and how the assessor will observe or check evidence. Ask which gaps need another setting and who arranges it. Paid experience or a roster of 120 hours does not by itself prove that the assessment requirements are met.
