What must you check before practical work?
Keep screening, host permission and national course entry distinct.
Which screening applies?
Screening depends on the service, role and workplace. Current aged-care guidance describes police-certificate or NDIS-screening routes in relevant circumstances. Do not assume a proposed future national check has commenced.
Ask the host to confirm accepted documents, validity and renewal. If duties involve NDIS participants, establish whether the role is risk assessed and which requirements apply. An existing check still needs verification for the new arrangement.
Who sets your task boundaries?
Host policies, supervision and your actual authority govern practical duties. Enrolling in this support qualification does not confer nursing registration or permission to undertake every care task.
How will you learn to speak up?
Use current Code of Conduct guidance on respect, privacy, safe care and raising concerns. Identify the host’s supervisor and reporting process before work begins. This page does not provide clinical instructions.
What should the host confirm in writing?
Describe the exact service, role and proposed duties, including whether the placement involves NDIS work. Ask which checks apply to that arrangement, who verifies them, any expiry or renewal dates, and who confirms that you may start. Do not buy every possible check or assume that one clearance covers every placement.
Keep three decisions separate: admission to the course, acceptance by the host, and permission to perform particular tasks. Ask what happens to your timetable and fees if clearance or a host place is delayed. This guide does not determine your eligibility or whether work may begin while a check is pending.
